Getting from one place to another in here takes a bit of thinking and planning. To get to the airport you have to rent a car or ride the bus. Renting a car is the easier way, but not the cheapest way. For this trip Kat and I opted for riding the bus. (Sorry I forgot to take a picture) In order to do this we grabbed our purses, our two wheelie flight bags, and a large box of goodies for our friends. We then had to walk about a block to catch the public transportation van to take us about 5 blocks so that we could catch the bus. While we were waiting for the public van a friend drove by and offered to give us a ride up to the main road. 1st stage complete. We then had to wait for an ac bus to drive by, put our stuff underneath and climb aboard. We rode the bus for about an hour and then got off and got a taxi to the airport. Finally we are at the airport and ready for our flight.
One of the fun things about flying in here is that almost always you have to go out on the tarmac in order to board or get off your plane. Sometimes if you get separated from the other people on your plane you aren’t sure which plane is yours or which door to the airport you are supposed to go in. It’s quite funny all the activity that is happening all around you out on the tarmac . . . it an adventure that doesn’t happen in the States.
Going and coming we had a layover in the capital city, I took the opportunity to buy a delicious cream puff that was filled while I waited. =) On the way home I bought a deli sandwich for lunch . . . it was delicious except for the fact that on my chicken, cheese, veggie croissant sandwich had ketchup on it. It was still good just a little strange tasting at times. Oh well, now I know for the next time to ask them to hold the ketchup.
At the end of our trip on our way home we were going to take the bus home so were were going to have to get a taxi from the airport to the bus station and then a friend was going to pick us up when we got to town because we would have been getting to town after the public transportation buses stopped running. However as I was walking through the airport during our layover I spotted a friend of ours and his son in a little shop. Since we were on the same flight and he had already ordered a car to come pick them up we decided to split the cost and ride home with them. It was very nice to get picked up from the airport and be dropped off at our house and not have to worry about any transfers or belongings going missing.
