Some friends picked us up on Tuesday morning to take us out for the day.
On our way up a mountain to the place we were going for lunch our friends were telling us about these “caves” that had been hand made by the Japanese during WWII. They were telling us that they used to go wandering around these caves, but a couple years ago the government had shut them down so that you couldn’t go in any more. As we got to the spot we were surprised to see gates over the openings . . . and they were open.
We decided to stop even though we didn’t really have any flashlights. Kat and I have flashlights on our phone, but they didn’t do much in the darkness of the cave. As we were wandering around our friends decided that the caves must have been shut down in order to fix them a bit because the stairs that we are standing on used to not be that nice.
The caves really were super impressive, it was like a house with lots of hallways and chambers. I can’t even imagine how long it must have taken to carve out the mountain to make such HUGE rooms.
We then went to this beautiful lake where we had a fresh fish lunch. We watched our fish be caught out of their little stock pens and then enjoyed picking the delicious fish off the bones. Doesn’t get much fresher than that.

After lunch they took us to their favorite little spot for coffee. It is a little resort/café in the middle of a gorgeous garden with a mountain as a backdrop. It was a little cloudy when we were there, but still very beautiful.

After that they dropped us off at some other friend’s house and we got to hang out with them for the rest of the day. (sorry I don’t have pictures) It was a fun day getting to talk about life and enjoying the company of wise friends.
