Visiting the Country

Monday the lady that Kathryn and I buy our fruit from invited us to her house to visit. So Saturday morning we met Ibu La and her husband in town and followed them out to their house in the country. We were greeted warmly by several of her family members and invited into her aunt's house for tea and a little snack.
The next thing we know one of the guys has climbed one of their coconut trees and is chopping down young coconuts for us to drink.

I think this is one of her uncles whacking a coconut open.

Ibu La and I with our young coconut drinks.
After our tasty drinks and eating some of the coconut meat we went next door to her house where we were served a sweet soup with cassava as well as some other snacks.

Before eating the food that Ibu La had made us for lunch she wanted us to meet some more of her family. We went to her uncle's house to meet him and his family along with her grandma and there we were served tea and soup. At this point Kathryn and I began to groan we were already full and we knew that we still had to eat more when we got back to Ibu La's house.

Her grandma (pictured above) then joined us and we went to Ibu La's parent's house. There we chatted for a while, drank some more tea and politely ate a banana. Then her grandma who is hilarious urges both Kathryn and I to eat more, we try to say that we are already full but she proceeds to take our hands and stick them into the bowl of banana's and makes us eat another one. We are talking and visiting while it's raining and her mom and grandma say that if it keeps raining we can just spend the night. Later they told us we could come live with them too. So cute! All the sudden grandma starts insisting we eat more bananas and again sticks our hands in the bowl. Kathryn and I stick them in our laps and say that we will save them for later . . . not a good enough answer. Grandma picks up Kathryn's banana and opens it and then tells me that if I don't eat mine now she is going to lock the door and I can't leave until I do. Oh my goodness we laughed and laughed. Finally we headed back to Ibu La's house where we were served a meal of rice, noodles and eggs. Wah, we were super full by that point, I was a little unsure if I was going to be able to get back on my motorbike! After about 5 hours of fun we headed back home with a bag of 4 young coconuts, some Jawa sugar and snacks. I'm excited to go back and visit sometimes, only now I know to fast the whole week before I go. =)
